This is my box for the final round of the VGBA Cup. Wanted to wait till after the scores, but I got tired of waiting, I also wanted to make a Metroid Prime box for awhile now. The printable copy will be up later, tell me what you think.

This is very impressive, if put lightly. Excellent layout on the front, which could have easily become confusing and chaotic, but your use of lighting gives it a sense of cohesion. Everything comes together nicely to form a singular piece of artwork.

I'm obligated to point out the non-canon image of Samus Aran on the front, but I've always loved that image of her, so I'll let it slide. As for the back, I like how you've incorporated the screenshots into the design. It's subtle, and the scanlines/sci-fi patterns overlayed keep it from looking like a random pile of screenshots.

One thing I'd mention, is the black template logos and Metroid logo clash a little too hard with the rest of the design. Otherwise, I love it.

Loving the design of this. I do agree with sd about the Metroid logo and the template logos, but other than that this is great.

This is really cool, almost avant garde cause I haven't seen a box on here that looked quite like this.

Though I really like the front's composition, the whole box suffers from some serious quality issues. On the front, everything, with exception of Samus looks either blurry or bad rendered. On the back, that "sight" (That you repeated on the font) looks even more blurry, as you seem to have enlarged it without consideration. The back does look like a random pile of screenshots, actually and it's odd the way they just end suddenly at some point (At its upper end.) The Metroid Prime Core looks odd being that much opaque, as it should be transparent at some places, and that shadow over it makes it look even less translucid. I agree with the others about the B&W GC logos and rating, and about the symbol on the back's bottom (You should remove them from the presentated version too, as you did with the printable.

As a side note, I'd like to highlight that you left some DepositPhotos watermarks around there in both front and back, and they're very noticeable. I suggest you to take out the printable version from public while you remove these, as it'd be very low if you let people print your box with these watermarks in there.

Overall, it's a nice box; nothing too new or too original, but it's not bad on it's essence. If it wasn't for the quality...

#11, I knew someone would point out the low quality of the printable, admittedly it's not A quality, but I've learned that a lot of the flaws you see in a 300 DPI image don't show up on printed paper, so I figured it would be fine once I printed it. I did miss the watermarks though, and I will fix those. I have to disagree with you that this is nothing new or original though, the composition on the front maybe but I've never seen a Metroid box quite like this one, and I also think the screen shots work really well and the "ending" you talk about won't be visable when printed.

#12, I'm not saying that there's been tons of Metroid boxes quite like this one, I meant that things like the front's composition (As you pointed out) and the use of a sole render with screenshots behind or around it have been done before. And about the screenshots, the preview is smaller than an actual DVD case, and I still can see it; and if you haven't noticed, I meant this parts link and link . I think the transition between the screenshots and the background is too abrupt. A border or a gradient would help.

#12, The dpi thing was kinda the same thing i was thinking for my box.
but, that's not why im here. I'm here to say

This is an original box. And I really like the flow, and the cross hairs are such a nice touch.

I have an updated version that fixes a few of the issues with this, and here is the printed version so you can all judge the quality yourselves:

this is terrific. the logo should be on the front cover as well and perhaps some added text at the back of the cover is needed too though. but it's really cool. :-)

I know I'm late to the party but damn, what a beaut! It doesn't need text. It speaks for itself. You rarely, if ever, disappoint, Pan.
