I love me some Pac-Man. Yes I do.

And when the opportunity presents itself to make a really amazing Pac-Man box, I'm on it like a rabid wolverine on a hot dog.

I really wanted to go with bright, flashy, neon colors for this one. Not because it's necessary, but because Pac-Man can look dull without something to spice it up. And since this was an arcade port on the NES, it seemed appropriate that the gamer should be given some incentive to buy the port, in this case flashy front cover graphics. So... yeah. Flashy neon Pac-Man, in a more traditional package.

I'm not sure if flashy, neon Pac-Man really fits in with the era. What was wrong with your Mario box? I thought it was a pretty strong competitor for this round.

#2, The Mario Bros box was highly misunderstood. I still thought it was a great box, and I enjoyed making it, but most of the people viewing it seemed to incorrectly assume that the box and presentation were one and the same, or mistakenly thought that it wasn't a box at all, but instead an ad for the game or an arcade cabinet poster. I think a lot of the reason for that was the lack of screenshots, barcodes, developer logos, ESRB logos, or any other typical game packaging icons on the box itself.

So, rather than risk having the box be misunderstood with the judges the same way it was with the users, I decided to submit a new box for the competition. I tried to be a bit more traditional with box design and the presentation this time, while also leaving the back design much more "dull" than the front, as NES boxes were. I did have a really great time making this box, though. I love the style of the front, and I think it fits an arcade game really well.

I gotta say, I liked your Mario box more. If you just changed the presentation, it would have been fine, in my opinion. This is also a good box, but I just thought that the other art was classic retro and fit in perfectly.

It's nice imagery, but doesn't feel anything like the time period. I agree that your Mario box would have been a better choice.

I like it as a box, though as I told you, I think it's not that remniscent of that era, with all these neon-like lights. I also dislike the screenshots, even though they're quite clever.

#2, #4, #5, $6, Yes, and if I had not uploaded a new box, I would have been condemned to the very depths of hell for making a box no one understood. Yet, as soon as I post a new box (after everyone complained about the first one to the point that it seemed like no one had a clue what they were even looking at), suddenly the other is a masterpiece of retro delight and this one is a design abomination. I don't understand you guys...

#7, Today is my first time seeing both of these designs. I see how people might have misunderstood the other one, and how that gave you a push to do this, a box with a somewhat more traditional set of design elements.

This isn't bad at all. I just find the Mario box better illustrated what the meaning of the round is.

I'm sorry you're having problems getting what the community wants out of your work. I get that, I often feel like that, too. All I can say is to do work that pleases you. That's what I do.

Edit: I somehow missed the ghost screenshot frames. Clever.

This box needs a LOT more attention.

#8, The work pleases me. I had a great time making this box. Honestly. The front looks exactly the way I wanted it. For the back, I would have done something more complex had it not been for the theme, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. The presentation as well.

What frustrates me is that the only reason I made this box was because everyone said that the LAST box didn't fit this theme, until I made THIS box. Now, suddenly the last box fits the theme perfectly and everyone understands it, and this one doesn't fit.

#11, Me, too. That was actually the first thing that came to mind.

#10, I understand where you're coming from. It is quite a mixed message you got from the community. I don't know how to alleviate the situation. Wish I had been on to give you a vote of confidence on Mario.
