I'm not a fan of custom templates, but whatever, I'll bite.

This is the first of three cases I'm designing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Metroid series, which is on August 6th. The three covers represent my three favorite games from the series, with Fusion being the third.

My skills in the field of custom artwork is questionable at best. This cover was a chance for me to hone my skills, without diving into anything too extreme. The artwork is not original, but I did create it by hand, scan it and then ink/color it on a PC. 95% of what you see here I made by hand. I don't take full credit for the original images though, of course.

There were two reasons I decided to take this unusual half-custom artwork route. (1) The artwork for this game is plentiful but low in quality, and (2) I was aiming for a cleaner, more simplistic look to the imagery with this cover, and the official Fusion artwork is much darker and more complex. It didn't fit with what I wanted to use.

I didn't really do this one to show off my skills, or to garner a bunch of views from fellow members. This one originated purely from entertainment, and my love of the Metroid series. Comments are always welcome. :D

I think you did a really nice job making all the artwork because without reading your explanation, I thought it was some sort of official artwork. It looks sort of comic book like.

#1: I've never been a fan of the official GBA template, and it was using up too much space. Thanks though.

#3: That was my intention. Thanks, man.

My favorite Metroid box on the whole site.

Totally eye catching, just simply amazing.

#9: Thank you, del. I plan on using this method for my second cover in the set. You can probably guess which it will be.

I really like this, but why is it a DS with Gameboy Advance written on it?

Everything looks well put together, two things that I really like, is the border on the front, how it goes around the ESRB and the developer logo, the front itself, the back and the logo.

#11: Coming from an artist I greatly respect, it always means a lot. Thanks, Aelixus.

#12: The official Gameboy Advance template has always displeased me, with it's ugly textures and large amount of occupied space. I much prefer the DS' template, and decided to base mine off of it.

#13: I appreciate the comment, Thro. I've had the idea for the border before, but didn't think through how to work it into a design. This attempt is pretty primitive, but it worked out well enough.

#14, Call it respectful trolling, but YOU DIDN'T NEED TO USE FILTERS OR STARS, YOU DID IT.

Wow, I like this a lot. The colors are nice, and it's something I could easily see on a shelf. Besides some of the artwork being low quality, this is great.

#16: I imagine you're talking about the image of Samus on the back. I don't get why it turned out like that, it's bothering me too.

I really hate the back the text is pretty low res and the tagline text is choppy and blurry. Not my favorite from you the front is pretty nice though.

Metroid's way better than Zelda!

@17, Yeah that's the one I was referring to. It still looks phenomenal, that's just a very small gripe I had with it.

Great job sd, if anyone knows how to make an Metroid box it's defiantly you. I just really hope Nintendo announces a Metroid for the 25th Anniversary.

Wow, I wasn't expecting such a sudden surge of attention. Thanks guys.

#22: That's what I'm hoping for too. I'm afraid it's going to end up being overshadowed by the Zelda anniversary though.

I recently got the idea of buying a bunch of DS boxes for my GBA games (since they can hold them), and I've been scouring for boxarts to use. I saw this, and your Zero Mission boxes.

I know it's been well over a year, but I found this today (both of them), and I was hoping for a printable version of these. They are fantastic.
