I told you guys I was going to honor the whole Genesis series. Sonic 2 was the first Genesis game I owned, it came with the console, but I knew who Sonic was, and I loved him. I was able to rarely play Sonic 1 on my cousin's Genesis, but I usually was only allowed to watch in awe. I never quite got bored with Sonic and moved on the way I did with other video game characters.
Here's to twenty fantastic years, old friend.
I remade a lot of stuff from my previous Sonic cover, first and most importantly, the logo. I don't know what I was thinking before when I uploaded Sonic 1 with that logo. It's horrible. So I remade one from scratch a bit higher quality (Feel free to compare.) I came so close to using the same brown checker board for this box because I couldn't quite get the Emerald Hill Zone tiles to work out, I figured it out eventually though.
So here's to a few weeks of work coming to an end. I hope you all enjoy it.As usual, super-duper high resolution printable is available.
#2, My exact thoughts.
It's always awesome to see you upload a box, Slyder, and this is no exception. And awesome sequel to an awesome box, hope this one gets the same recognition.
Cool follow-up. My only suggestion would be to add shadows underneath Sonic and Tails, to better push the idea that they're standing on the edge of the border.
Thanks a lot for the support and input. I'm keeping a list of all the little things I need to fix and I'll probably update it pretty soon. Every time I make a box there's always that "Am I really done, here?" stage, and I'll spend ten minutes analyzing it and looking for things I've forgotten, yet one or two things always slip by.
I don't know about that, Spypilot. I was pretty displeased with Unleashed. I can't imagine putting forth this much effort for it. I'd make a Sonic '06 box before I'd do another Unleashed box.
#14, Yeah, literally everything on this box I created from scratch.
Even though, I am not a fan of Sonic., this is a nice and unique design. Especially since you drew everything yourself, however, I agree with sd that you should add shadow on the characters up front.
I'm not a big fan of the artstyle though. I wish you used the same artstyle as your last one. I really loved the last one's shading and how smooth it was. This one is too sharp and and fanarty for my tastes :(
#17, I think I agree with you. I'm still trying to find my style when it comes to digital coloring. I might redo it, and it won't be too much work since I already have the "base colors" in the original .psd file.
I much preferred the darker, smoother style of the drawings you used for Sonic 1, but there's no denying that this is some damn impressive work. Great job, man.
Thanks a ton for all the support, everybody. I've got a lot of stuff I plan on improving upon, from fixing minor things like Sonic and Tails' shadows, to more complex changes like the shading style. I'm going to give the softer, blended shading style from Sonic 1 a shot.
I'm hoping once the changes are made it'll be joining its predecessor in the Masterworks category.
Okay. I finally got around to changing the shading style and correcting a few small errors here and there. I also added some subtle lighting to the case to give it a little more life. I personally feel like it's looking better than before, and I hope you guys agree.
This is a great box. I really like the front, how it includes the special stages and Silver Sonic. The back is also good, but I would have liked for a little more space to be filled up. Nevertheless(not sure if I spelled that right) this box is amazing as a whole. Great Job Slyder! *thumbs up* :)
The artwork is awesome. The shading is complicated and makes it look very professional. The basic layout of the pillars and bricks work great, while the detail of the back image ,makes this better than your original Sonic the Hedgehog design in my opinion

Very nice. I think you should make sonic a bit darker, cause he's sort of a worn out blue color on here.

First game I actually owned, still got it on my shelf along with Sonic, Sonic and Knuckles and around 40 other Megadrive (UK Version) games.
Great game, still play it from time to time and I still love it.
+Fav.

#12, your comment and this box may have just inspired me to make a Streets of Rage or Golden Axe box...
Anyway, out of curiousity, did you draw the characters yourself? Regardless if you did or not, it's creative, polished work.

Something about the skinnier style of Sonic irks me, but overall it's pretty fantastic.

Major improvement. Kudos to you, for not simply going about it the easy way, but completely redoing the shading and lighting.
Excellent.

Really like the simplicity of this design. You could try to improve on the artstyle in the front, but the presentation overall is superb.
