For those who don't know, Tomoyasu Hotei is a Japanese guitarist/singer/composer/actor who kicks unmeasurable amounts of ass. His 'Battle Without Honor or Humanity' is his most recognizable song because of its use in Kill Bill Vol. 1, but his career spans 30 years, though only one of his albums (Electric Samurai, a compilation) has been released in the US.
If only this game would exist. Props to Drakxxx who actually knew who the man was in the WiP thread.
Anywho, this is my first Japanese box, took a fair amount of time to do.
#2, Most computers have fonts pre-installed that have Japanese character sets. If you can read the Japanese text in the hyperlink above the box, then you have one of those fonts. Just paste it into Photoshop and it'll choose the first font in your library with Japanese character support.
At first I was deterred by its simplicity - it just didn't seem artsy or pretentious enough XD. Per'aps a little "too" simple, if you get what I mean...
Regardless, I've still favourited it. There's a really nice flow and charm going on. Good work.
I was going to comment on how the text on the back isn't in Japanese, but that looks like performers' names, (which does not need to be in Japanese). I also would prefer it to have a template, (probably not a good idea hence the template being different colors).
#14, Yeah the large characters on the front and back read 'Tomoyasu Hotei.' He uses both them and his English name. And I tried it with a template, but it looked...weird.
it's not really good. It's just a bunch of Japanese writing and a couple of pictures. The color scheme is plain. The guy on the left is clearly gay. I'm over the whole Japanese thing. Yawn. Not to mention this has nothing at all to do with Rockband. This is mediocre at best.
#17, It's meant to be black & white. The front design and the entire color scheme is based on one of Hotei's main guitars. And it has plenty to do with Rock Band--it's a Rock Band game featuring Hotei's music. How can it have anything more to do with Rock Band?
In your last few boxes you seem to have a flair for geometrical patterns and curvy shapes.
I think you should try using illustrator more often. You'd be surprised how much more you can achieve with the pen tool in illustrator compared to in Photoshop.
#20, I don't have Illustrator and I'm not gonna spend the extra cash to get the CS5 Design Suite. I'm upgrading to Photoshop Extended CS5, though, which should be good.
But yes, I had never used the pen tool before but I'm liking it more and more. And I want to get a tablet PC so I can do proper hand-drawn stuff.

This design is quite flawless man. Everything compliments one another, the flow is perfectly balanced, and the black and white is just epic.

Oozes crazy, slick and somewhat out there Japanese graphic design. Just what i'd expect to see in a Japanese music/games shop. Well done.

#11, I'm still quite partial to my Rock Band Beatles one, but I love the black & white of this one.
