Here's my Sonic 3 box, box number 3 of 4 in my Sonic series. Sorry for it being a day late, I've been having a bastard of a time with my computer lately (methinks its time for a format.)
Went for the 3 colored stripes look this time to represent the 3 volume milestone and wanted to have a fire theme to honor the change between act 1 and act 2 in 'Angel Island', so I thought Robotnik burning up the jungle would be a good inclusion on the front cover. Knuckles is more present than Sonic and Tails for a reason, no matter how I arranged it, it never look right unless it was like it is now. Did some brush work to the logo to give it a sort of 'tech' feel I guess (for some reason Sonic 3 gives this impression to me) and added some palm trees in for a more jungle feel, along with the mountain in the background.
On the back, carried the fire theme across with some palm trees, but kept it pretty tam this time, opting to have a more generic feel to the arrangement. I guess I wanted to sort of show the progression of the Mega Drive temp in a way from more of a free form thing to a regulated Sega template, a bit like early NES and SNES games to later ones. Also brought the 3 stripes across too.
This one was tricky at times, things like the fire, its all the same image, I just distorted it to get a different look in places, the same with the palm trees, its just one resized and slightly distorted. This was mainly because the fact I couldn't find any sort of real scenery shots of Sonic without compromising quality, but I think I did a good job though. Also tried some depth of field work with the fire too, a bit less this time though!
Thanks be to p0ker for inspiration again, his series is tops.
I thought that with Sonic 2 I had seen it all. I was wrong... Excellent use of colour... I like how these three boxes are different enough to make them unique, yet they fit in a common "trilogy" theme. Can't wait for S&K.
Hey guys, wow, again great feedback, glad you all like it, it was a tricky one this box, but i think it turned out ok. Hopefully i can get S&K up tomorrow night, if not, its a Saturday job (damn PC screwing me around!). Stay tuned and a huge thanks again!
Man, you put a lot of effort into this, and all of it was worth it. It's great. People should look at all three boxes, as they are, in a way, somewhat related in the progression of the Sonic series, rather than individual boxes that can be completely unique.
Very Nice. The artwork of Sonic on the front looks cool. I like how the logo is very techno and how Eggman and his Flaming Pod are alone and stand out.
G'day!
