This is my submission for Reed's official VGBA contest. I don't remember reading anywhere that it had to be a game, so I selected the anime Death Note. A great series in general and it has strong color symbolism with Light and L, so I thought it was quite clever. My only regret is that I didn't do a pic of Ryuk.

I made the imagery in Illustrator than ported it over to Photoshop.

I hope this is good enough to do well in the contest.

Thanks in advance for all comments/critiques/favs!

Death Note is win! And the coloring on this boxart reminds me of the first opening where L is in somewhat blue colors and Light is in red colors. :)

And the old english font works really well :)

#2, The rear image of Light is from the first ending, and the apple shot kind reminds me of the end of the first opening. And like every time Light and L face off, they glow red and blue respectively, lol.

I'm glad you like this!

There's something wrong with the thumbnail of this for some reason.

Nice box, I'm really digging the clean vector contrast.

#5, I know, maybe because I converted to GIF to make sure there weren't any mid colors?

Thanks for everybody else for their comments. I'm happy that people are enjoying this, and I sure hope that this has a chance at winning the contest.

Very interesting. Very clean. Did you do the vector art yourself? I have to say that's some impressive use of shadow there. :D

#9, Yes, I did do the vector myself. I can't take too much credit for the high contrast of the images, as I derived my drawings from official artwork, but I'll agree that it came together nicely, XD

Very stylish cover.

I wish you had balanced some of the blue on the front, with some blue on the back cover - but regardless of that - it turned out great.

A minor nitpick - you could've added technical details of DVD, production company, e.t.c. to increase authenticity of the cover as well as filling the bottom of the back cover.

Terrific stuff man. The drawings came out superb, and you've balanced out the color wonderfully.

#11, I actually considered adding the production info on it, but I decided against it at the time. I may go back and add it yet, I agree that it would help make it legit.

For Drakxxx's and all previous comments so far, thanks!
