This is for the final round of Drakxxx's art comp. The sonic on the front was DRAWN BY ME. The idea for the comp. was mascots. Meaning the mascot of a company. The original Sonic The Hedgehog for the genesis is my all time favorite game, i actually played it wile the box was uploading :D . Credit to stevencho for the screen borders/what i used for the temp. Enjoy
This is terrific work Cubbie. The things tleeart suggests would make it even better, but even as it is now it's a fantastic drawing, and you've incorporated into your design very effectively.
Love that pose on the front. could I suggest a blurred/transparent duplicate of your current drawing in the background to increase the feeling of speed?
It's fantastic as it is, however.
I'd try out some of tleeart's suggestions as well.
I cannot understand why this has got so many favs...
I'm pretty sure Drakxxx only faved this because it is for HIS competition and the art on the front is fairly decent, not because the actual boxart is all that great.
- The tagline should say "You're" and not "Your".
- In full view, the text and the screenshots look just awful really.
- The back is lacking. There is no Sega logo or there is no '1 Player' logo.
- In legal info, you put "Proertiy" when it should be Priority.
- You coloured Sonic's eyes as green when in fact, they were still black at this time. Sonic's eyes only changed to green around the Sonic Adventure era.
- You missed out the white stripe on Sonic's shoe.
- You wrote in the legal info, "Sega Inc 1992" when this game was actually released in 1991.
- The screenshot borders seem incredibly lazy! You basically just recycled the template you used and made them smaller.
- The font you used for the description is terrible and doesn't suit the game whatsoever.
- And finally, the back description is just so poorly written:
"Take Sonic The Headhog" - Should be Hedgehog
"Threw tons of worlds" - Should be Through
"Get special powerups like stars" - Should be called Invincibility, not stars.
"And protection balls" - WTF?! They are called SHIELDS! Are you sure you've actually played this game?
"Fight threw lava" - Again, same mistake as previous mentioned.
"Rated one of the best games in Genesis, or any systems, history" - Say what?
Okay yes, I understand some of these are just minor flaws and could be considered nitpicking. But it seems like people just take one look at it and think "OMGZ CUSTOM ART!!! INSTA FAVSSSS!!" regardless of how well the box is made and/or put together.
Wow, #9, thanks for the list of stuff. You are such an amazing box artist, and evrything you do is sooooo perfect, im sorry im not up to your standered. Next time i make a sonic box, ill put it by you to make sure EVRYONE WHO WILL EVER FAV IT EVER, will love it!

I like a lot of things about it.
A couple of suggestions:
Add shading to Sonic, it would add so much to it.
Add an exclamation point to your tagline, it will seem more dynamic.
Put in a third screenshot, probably of Green Hill Zone or Labyrinth Zone.
